History part II

I didn't get to bask in the history as long as I may have liked. As most of you know, i live in the perpetually red state of West Virginia. I love my state and my city; but I have been repeatedly reminded where I am. Ever since the victory, there has been a unspoken tenseness and hostility in the air. Everyone wants to remind me that, "it's not like you are gonna personally experience a difference" now that the first black president is elected. It's a heavy feeling. Most white people that I come in contact with, now want to remind me that he is half white. As if to say that a full blooded black man couldn't have snuck by them. This whole "half white" notion, in my state and city, is laughable though. No one that I know of, sees people that way, unless they want to claim a redeeming quality about a person. My part of the world still lives in the One Drop Of Black Blood days. Racial tension is at an all time high while black aggression is at an all time low. It saddens me but just give me a tiny glimpse at the uphill battle that President Obama is up against. I'm not afraid of assassination. I'm not sure why, but I'm not. I'm just hurt by the asterisks that so many people are ready to place by his name before he has even taken office. Another area of concern is the pass that blatant and latent racist are trying to use by telling people that they voted for Obama. I had a co-worker actually ask me, "What if he is a Muslim and blows us all up, or locks up in concentration camps?" This person was dead ass serious too. I don't assume that all people are like the ones that I'm posting about. I also don't assume that these people are alone in their attitudes, actions, or beliefs. I just thought I could expect the joy of others to help me celebrate, and not just my own. I was wrong. But that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?
