Maybe George Michael Was Wrong.....

For those who are new to the blog, a Schedule 1 word is a word that has no positive or medicinal purposes; and should be banned. The new word that I'll nominate is a little suspect. I actually am going to wait and hear back from you guys before i put it on the list. The word up for review is FAITH. I'm sure some of you are coming up with an argument as you read this. I was brought up to believe,"Without FAITH, it's impossible to please God.", "FAITH is the substance of things hoped for.", and "FAITH is the evidence of things not seen". I was always sold on these principles until I heard a quote from Pastor Ray Hagins; "When knowledge is present, FAITH is not necessary." I heard that and began to think. FAITH allows too much room for error. FAITH gives you the ability to build a belief system around something that isn't true or to hold on to a failed or faulty ideology. If FAITH is used as a weapon to question, correct, and relegate a person's morality; then it isn't a tool of righteousness. I can see FAITH used as a motivation to learn and know; but FAITH as an ending or finishing point, does more harm than good. If you have FAITH in something or someone; that FAITH should push you to find out if that Faith is based in truth and reality or falsehood and rhetoric. If your FAITH isn't based in truth and reality, then that isn't FAITH. It is delusion or, on a more positive note, Hope. Hope is very different than FAITH. Hope has fantasy, whimsical connotation to it and FAITH is much more concrete and rigid. If FAITH is placed on the Schedule 1 list; Hope is the word that I would suggest to replace it. Let me know what you think. This is just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?

A Case Of The HICK-ups

I know you may have been wondering about why I haven't been posting. Well, here's the story. I took my computer to a guy named Greg Hicks. All I took it there for was to get some more memory installed. THAT'S ALL. After he installed the memory, I got home and the computer crashed. Mr. Hicks then informed me that my motherboard was broken and He could fix it for the low low price of $300. Since I am shamefully dependent on my computer; I agreed. After he repaired the computer it looked like a brand new sleek, black, beautiful, computer. I was pumped. He also informed me that I had a 1 year warranty. I couldn't be happier. I rushed home, plugged the computer in, and it crashed again. I took it back to Greg Hicks and he fixed it again. Then he told me that the next time he has to fix the computer, he'll have to charge me. I was pretty heated about that, but I let it slide because I was just happy to be connected again. Low and behold, the computer crashed again. I say all of that, to say this: Don't be like Greg Hicks. If you can't do something, don't lie and say that you can; and for damn sure don't get untrue, misleading business cards printed up. If you say you have an ability and advertise that ability; please be able to deliver. My grand total came to about $400 and I still don't have a working computer. Greg Hicks pulled a fast one on me and I hope he doesn't get the chance to pull a fast one on any of you. Luckily for me(and Mr. Hicks), I have this forum to get things off my chest and release tension. Now, there is no need to read into this incident and make it a matter of disrespect and an act of blatant condescending behavior or an attack on me as a man. An attack that begs for a response. Thank goodness I've grown enough as a person that I have no desire to see Mr. Greg Hicks in an alley and beat the breaks off his non-computer fixing butt. I'm proud of myself. If you want to see for yourself, above is his card. Check him out on your own and see for yourself. But that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?

6. Police Academy movies
7. Downtown Wheeling
8. When tennis shoes costs under $100
9. Queen Latifah's breasts
10. Playing video games with my cousin Neil at 7-11
11. Not worrying about my blood pressure
12. The dirt pile
13. Slim
14. The Hobby Shop
15. When Louis' Hot Dog was in town
16. When Rap music was all about originality
17. Ms. Wiggins
18. Johnny Carson

You never know; if I never get to do these thing, go these places, or see these people again; I'm just gonna try to duplicate the feelings, hold on to the memories, and make it a part of my life now. I suggest everyone make a list and do the same; but that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?

I'm Trippin'

This is the day that it really hit me. We could actually have a black man as the president of the united states of america. I never really thought that he would win the democratic nomination, because I always assumed the Super delegates would swoop in and save us the trouble of looking for the conspiracy this time. I just never dreamt that we as a people would ever get this close to the white house. Since we live in the times of Don Imus, Flavor Flav, and Sean Bell, I don't expect to see a black man as commander in chief any time soon; but I have to take a minute and marvel at the idea of someone that looks like me and has the shared experience of being a black man, being "The leader of the free world". I don't care how short lived this feeling will be. I'm not sure if a white person could relate to this feeling? It would be like, if you were in high school and you were constantly bullied. Then, one day you favorite uncle became principal. Yeah, the bullying may not stop; but the bullies would know that messing with you would be like messing with the principal. The weak would no longer seem so powerless. It would be like living in Gotham. Yeah, it's still a rough city; but at least you know Batman is around. I'm filled up with pride, hope, and excitement; and despite this country's track record, I'm gonna hold on to this feeling as long as I can before it is ripped away again. I'm gonna stand a little taller tomorrow. I'm gonna walk with a bit more swagger than usual. I'm gonna convince myself that I am one of the fine residents of the city of Metropolis, who just sat down to read the latest addition of the Daily Planet. I'm taking that luxury for myself tomorrow. If any other black folks are reading this, I suggest you do the same. But that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?
