The Worst Arguement of All Time!!!

Have you ever been in a situation where you found yourself arguing about who is more oppressed? I just recently found myself in a heated debate with a gay man about which us have seen more oppression and injustice. We were saying things like, "You've never had to hide who you were!" & "It's not like I can hide being black! It's the first thing you see and notice about me!" By the end, we were both more exhausted than any closer to resolving any issue. I just wondered if anyone else has fallen into this trap. Being a black man, I can think back to having this same argument with a white woman, and a Jewish man. All of us were making great points and each of us had felt real pain. I have recently decided that pain is universal so I am going to TRY and not engage in that sort of argument again. When I say pain is universal, I mean, the feeling. Like falling. When someone is falling it feels the same for everyone. Scary as hell. Unless you are some sort of thrill seeker. Since the sensation of fear and lack of control is the same for all people while they are falling; should the distance or height they are falling from matter? Maybe it's the same for pain and oppression. But that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?

Exactly why perception is such a major factor. Everyone lives by their own perception and interpretation of that perception. What we should do is recognize and accept others pain; realizing that although it may not BE the same, it truly IS the same.

Just for the record, your blackness is not the first thing I noticed about you....but I can't speak for the rest of the world!
