The Good Wife's Guide

Back in the day there was a magazine entitled, Housekeeping Monthly. When I say back in the day, I mean baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack in the day. In their May 13th, 1955 issue they had a little list that they ran entitled, "The Good Wife's Guide". When I read it, I was reminded of how drastically the ideas of Home, Wife, Family, and Husband have changed. I'm gonna post at least one of these things per week and I want you guys; especially the women, to tell me what you honestly think.

Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

This amazes me because had this article been published today, not only would the author be labeled a sexist and banished, the magazine itself would come under serious scrutiny. I'm not say that this guide is correct, I'm just interested in the drastic changes in opinion. It begs the question, " Who is the victim of manipulation?" The women who were reading this in 1955 and being told that it was credible and viable; or the women of today who are being told that this type of thinking and attitude is detrimental to all women in the world today" I think there is an argument for both sides; but that's just my opinion though, and who the hell am I?

I suppose I will be the first:

Back in the day, things were totally different. Women stayed home while men went out and worked. Back then, men respected, valued and appreciated "good ole wifey".

Now with all the myspace, blogs, twitter, facebook, email and text the verbal communication seems limited. Men and women spend hours daily busy flirting on these sites and gettin bored with the everyday let me go home to wifey.

Yes, by all means Good ole wifey should keep the interest alive. But, come on men. You do have a part to play and its not coming home to a homecook meal, fire burning, ribbons in our hair and waiting on your hour of return. You have a part to play as well.

I have a firepit and I have no problem making our home a haven for rest. But, what's wrong with him coming home to a nice fire and maybe rubbing my feet as we listen to mellow music on the deck. You see two people have to be willing to keep the flame burning to make the fire sizzle.

For the comment, "who is the victim of manipulation?" That's the problem right there. Why does it have to be a victim mentality and why does it have to be manipulation?

Women will do almost anything for their man, as long as he is respecting, valuing and appreciating her. As long as she is feeling like a queen, her man has the world. We don't mind the cooking, cleaning, ribbons, massages, etc. but you have to treat us right.

Good ole wifey is a working woman too. She doesn't mind keeping up with house chores, having the meal cooked, wearing her ribbons or wearing nuttin at all. But she wants her man there to love her, comfort and adore her.

That's the problem. Men aren't coming home to good ole wifey.

They say a street girl is better. They say I don't want the same women nite after nite. They say, I want variety. Men don't want to take the time with good ole wifey and enhancing her skills.

Good ole wifey is just too damn good for him. So he creeps around, working late hours, stopping here and there. And before you know it...good ole wifey just simply gives up trying.

Good ole wifey has a problem when after it's all said and done and after hours of waiting, he just doesn't come home.

You know that song? Whose doing your lady while your out doing? Men, need to think about the song.

When I get a man, he will come home to many and plenty of surprises. When I get a man, I want a little surprise too.
